The Corner

The rosin touched the strings
As he opened the leather case
Sweet tones on the street corner
And the corner is his stage

For a love he stood there nightly
A love he touched no more
Melodies to forget her
He remembered as he played

His passion to draw the bow
Tears he cried no more
If he played the notes just right
He prayed that she would hear

He knows that she can see him
Feels it deep inside
He plays this violin for her
From this corner every night

This corner where she left him
All against her will
The night air is so pure
Sounds they waft so high

It’s the only way he knows
His love will leave this earth
To reach her soul in heaven
And touch her heart once more
